The Math & Science Center freshmen spent the beginning of the week in Northern Michigan. Their experience included hiking in Sleeping Bear Dunes, collecting data on trees for their statistics project, visiting the Platte River State Fishery, and doing scientific research aboard the Inland Seas schooner. Back in the classroom, they are now analyzing their data for their geometry and biology classes.

Today, we remember the bravery and unity that arose from September 11, 2001. At Lakeshore, we work every day to teach our students the values of courage, compassion, and togetherness. Let's take a moment to thank our first responders, military personnel, and everyone who serves to keep us safe.

With a strong commitment to student well-being and a proven track record in supporting academic and personal growth, Mr. Thompson brings valuable experience to this role. His collaborative work with colleagues, counselors, and the broader Lakeshore community has been crucial in providing tailored support and resources to students. As Dean of Students, he is committed to continuing this work to ensure all students thrive academically, socially, and emotionally. Lakeshore High School Principal, Jerry Holtgren, said, “Mr. Thompson will bring a student-first approach to his new role as well as the passion and enthusiasm we’ve learned to expect from him. We look forward to him helping our young people learn, grow, and become successful students and adults. His ideas and perspectives will help shape our student services moving forward.” In addition to his new role, Mr. Thompson will continue as the head varsity football coach at Lakeshore High School. Danny Thompson said, “I'm honored to take on the role of Dean of Students, where I can help foster positive change school-wide. Leaving the classroom after 12 years is bittersweet; it's been my home away from home, filled with priceless moments and incredible students. However, I look forward to this new challenge, especially because it means I can continue to be around the amazing students and faculty of Lakeshore! It's about us.”
